Since 1992 they switched over to baked apple pies. I call this time AB (after baked). Until TODAY! Watch us make both fried & baked options and at the end see us give our drunk honest review. That’s right… we decided to go out, get completely hammered, come back and review the apple pies.

Baked Apple Pie: 190 Calories
Fried Apple Pie: 250 Calories
Serving Size: 1 Apple Pie
Makes 10 Pies

Prep: 10 Minutes
Bake @ 450°F: 15-20 Minutes
Deep Fry @ 350°F: 3-4 Minutes
• Deep Fryer:

• 4 Granny Smith Apples
• 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
• 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter
• 4 Tbsp brown sugar (packed)
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp allspice
• 1/2 tsp nutmeg
• Vegetable oil

Deep Fried Version:
• Puff Pastry Roll (makes 10)

Baked Version:
• Pie Crust Roll (makes 10)


This is a very simple, yet effective recipe you can do with family and friends snuggled up inside on a holiday weekend with a warm cup of hot cocoa and possibly a cliche pet nearby watching?

1.) Peal and chop your apples into squares. Pour into a saucepan and add in your sugar, spices, and butter. Cook until tender, about 10 minutes, and allow to cool.

2.) Using a straight edge or a tape measure, cut pie dough or puff pastry using a pizza pie cutter into 4.75″ x 4.75″ squares for the exact measurements of a McDonalds Apple Pie. Fill with 2-3 tablespoons of apple filling. Brush the edges with water before folding to bind better and crimp the edges with a fork to firmly close.

Option A: Fry Puff Pastry or Pie Crust @ 350°F for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway in between, and then enjoy.

Option B: Bake Puff Pastry or Pie Crust @ 450°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Verdict: Baked or Fried?

The Puff Pastry & The Pie Crust both had better results deep frying. But is that really a surprise?
The deep fryer oil gives them a more solid, but flaky crust perfect for holding in your hand and taking a bite out of.

For a healthier, less desirable method, baking will work. But even though you’re not as happy eating the baked version, you can live to be not as happy longer!
